While doing research online for our documentary Stocktown X South Africa one of the first people we came across was Johannesburg based photographer Musa Nxumalo. He was at the time writing under one of his many alter egos, Alternative Kid Musa Nxumalo under the now defunct blog of the same name, having recently completed a photo series documenting his fellow alternative punk/metal friends. We loved his work so he was one of the first people we met up with in Joburg, he also introduced us to the Soweto heavy metal band Ree-Burth. In the video above Musa talks about what led him to become photographer, some of his work so far and why he choose a different way of life than most people around him.
